Visiting Georgetown, TX for a weekend

Updated: Aug 1, 2020

Summer 2020 is looking a lot different than what most of us expected it to look like. Let's face it - none of us were prepared for the arrival of Ms. Rona. However, that doesn't mean we have to stop the fun completely.

With the limited travel options, I've started researching more about all the hidden treasures that are available in the United States - specifically in Texas. One of the hidden treasures, I encountered was Georgetown, TX. Located about 30 miles from Austin, you'll find this picturesque town that offers everything you need for a weekend of peace.

For starters, you'll find the yummy Tex-Mex restaurant El Monumento. The establishment is gorgeous and overlooks the Blue Hole lagoon. You can choose to either sit in the courtyard or enjoy the dining pavilion. I personally always go for the outdoor seating!

The menu is extensive and offers a little bit for everyone including any vegan or gluten-free visitors. I personally had the plant-based chiles rellenos and LOVED them. If you decide to visit - I'd recommend also ordering their jalapeño margaritas! I was blown away by how good it was.

Just a few blocks away you'll find where all the action is at the Downtown Square. We found that everyone gathers here and in fact, brings their own chairs and snacks to spend the day here. The square is surrounded by restaurants and bars, where they allowed us to purchase drinks to go as we walked around the town.

Walking around Georgetown was such a surreal experience - it was almost as walking through a studio lot! It's so charming and I found the people to be incredibly nice.

When we were searching for things to do in Georgetown, TX - we came across the Palace Theater which is such a treasure. Given the current conditions in place, they are hosting outdoor screenings in their parking lot. I was able to catch their Rocky Horror screening and I'm so glad I did. We didn't have tickets prior to arriving but everyone in charge was incredibly kind and so accommodating. I'd highly recommend checking out their upcoming events calendar if you plan on visiting.

Lastly, if you plan on visiting Georgetown - I'd recommend staying at the Sheraton Austin Georgetown Hotel. Stayed there for the entirety of my stay and it was such a pleasant experience. My favorite element was that they have bikes for guest to explore the town with. It was such a cool experience! Additionally, the staff made sure that everything was constantly sanitized and social distancing was in place.
